What is an Isolation Gown?
Isolation gowns are one form of personal protective equipment (PPE) used in medical and laboratory settings. They protect the user from possible infection if they come into contact with potentially infectious matter. They also protect anyone around the wearer. Medical gowns are an important aspect of infection control.

Different Types of Medical Gowns
There are many different types of gowns used in the scientific and medical settings. This includes surgical gowns, isolation gowns, surgical isolation gowns, nonsurgical gowns, procedural gowns, operating room gowns, IV patient gowns, and pediatric gowns.

Isolation Gowns Versus Surgical Gowns
Disposable isolation gowns are heavily utilized by hospital workers to protect themselves and others from contamination of biohazards. They are usually classified as either level 1 or level 2 gowns. Disposable isolation gowns are not heavy duty enough for settings where where is significant exposure to biohazards, like in surgical rooms, which usually utilize level 4 gowns. Classification of isolation gowns and their uses is determined by levels, as seen below. More information can be found on our buying guide

-Level 1 Gowns: Used in minimal risk settings. Used as cover gowns for visitors, standard isolation, and routine care.

-Level 2 Gowns: Used in low risk settings such as during blood draws, suturing, ICU, or pathology labwork.

-Level 3 Gowns: Used in moderate risk settings. Can be used for artierial blood draws, inserting IV lines, or in emergency rooms.

-Level 4 Gowns: Used in high risk settings, like long intensive procedures and surgeries. Needed for situations where there is high risk for pathogens or infectious agents. Level 4 isolation gowns prevent all fluid penetration for up to one hour.

Customer Testimonial

"This is the only store that is always in stock with the disposable isolation gown my clinic needs. Cheapest prices I've found, too! Make sure to double check the level number of the isolation gown you’re buying. There are different levels and it can get confusing if you don't know what you're looking for."
