Polyester is (a petroleum derivative) plastic, that is extruded through a head, similar to what looks like a shower head.

Filament is the basic state of the fiber when made. It’s very much like fishing line. Filament is very strong, and holds dye very well, if applied properly.

Filament polyester is made from long, continuous strands of polyester. This type of fabric is strong and durable, making it a good choice for aprons that will see a lot of wear and tear. However, filament polyester can often feel stiff and synthetic, which some people find uncomfortable.

Spun polyester, on the other hand, is made from shorter polyester fibers that have been twisted together. This gives the fabric a softer feel that many people find more comfortable to wear. However, spun polyester is not as strong as filament polyester and may not hold up as well to repeated washings.

Spun polyester is filament fiber that is softened through agitation and chemistry. It is much softer and absorbent (ad-sorbs) than filament. While spun polyester is long-lasting in wear-life, it has a softer hand, and can actually resemble cotton (without the lint).

Most of the polyester apparel on our website is 100% spun polyester.

Filament polyester is used in aprons and napery. In some cases, napery has filament in one direction and spun poly in the other direction, which provides great strength along with comfortable “hand” (feel).

So, which type of apron is best for you? That depends on your personal preferences and how you'll be using the apron. If you need an apron that is strong and durable, filament polyester is a good choice. However, if you prefer a softer fabric that is more comfortable to wear, spun polyester may be a better option.
